KARACHI: The spate of deadly traffic accidents in Karachi shows no signs of slowing down, with the number of fatalities rising to 298 in just the first three months and 27 days of this year.
Data reveals that among the deceased were 27 women, 40 children, and 231 men. Alarmingly, heavy vehicles were responsible for a significant portion of these deaths. A total of 95 citizens, including women and children, lost their lives after being crushed under heavy vehicles.
Breaking down the figures further, 18 people were killed by dumpers, 39 by trailers, 22 by water tankers, 6 by Mazdas, and 10 by buses.
In addition to the fatalities, 4,130 individuals sustained serious injuries in traffic incidents during the same period. Among the injured were 590 women, 212 children, and 3,328 men.
Despite the growing death toll and the thousands injured, the bloodshed on Karachi’s roads shows no signs of abating.
